"Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition": A Guest Post By Pass The Rouge

If your skin is really starting to show the effects of this harsh winter, then you'll definitely want to check out these winter skincare product recommendations by Pass the Rouge! I'd like to thank Michelle & Valerie for sharing these great tips and encourage you to check out their blog http://passtherouge.com/

We don't know about you but NYC is under this awful polar vortex that has really taken a toll on our skin!  If you are familiar with our blog, then you know we are obsessed with skincare, and we have tested and reviewed countless skincare products.  It is extremely important to hydrate and moisturize your dry skin especially during this time of year. So we compiled a list of our favorite products and created our "Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition".  So without further ado, here's our list:

Embryolisse Lait Cream- We have mentioned this face lotion countless times on our blog, and for good reason- this cream is on the heavier side but blends nicely into your skin.  It doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy or sticky.

Sibu under eye cream- I don't know about you all, but we both struggle with dry undereye areas.  Together we have tried high end and low end eye creams and we're never really "WOWED" by any of them.  Recently we both began using Sibu's eye cream and finally found a product that locks in moisture.  Best of all this product is paraben free, and all natural!

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream-  This product has the consistency of super thick Vaseline but the difference is it absorbs into your skin in a matter of seconds! The product explains itself as a concentrated glycerin formula enriched with Vitamin E, Vitamin B2, and Camphor. You can use this cream on any body part that may need some extra moisture; I love using it on my lips and cuticles.

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Crème: There’s nothing worse than a harsh winter causing dry, cracked feet. This product is super moisturizing and really penetrates deep into your skin.  Right before bed, I slather some on and put on a pair of my comfiest socks, by the morning my feet are super soft.
So there you have it, our  "Polar Vortex Survival Guide: Skincare Edition." We would love to hear some of your winter skincare must haves!  You can find us on twitter @passtherouge and on Instagram at Passtherouge.

Stay Warm, and moisturize!

Xo,
Michelle & Valerie

5 Things I Learned From The March 2014 Issue of Allure Magazine!

1) There's a beauty buzzword I'd never heard of called "stippel". It means "To tap on foundation, blush, or bronzer, in a series of dots. Inspired by the painting technique used by George Seurat."

2) I love making DIY face masks/scrubs and I'm always looking for new ones to try. Allure Beauty Blogger of the Year, Cara Brooks suggests a lemon face scrub. "Mix a tablespoon on lemon juice with a tablespoon of sugar. Scrub in circles, then wipe clean with a damp towel. You're skin will be so soft, you won't want to stop touching it. But do."

3) "When doing smokey eyes never, ever darken or square of the brows." I've been guilty of this for sure! Makeup artist Dempsey advises, "It's stripper-y against a bold eye and besides, I love pale brows with dramatic shadow." Note to self: Be a little gentler with the brow pencil!

4) "You can sneakily fake smoky eyes using a big, fat creamy pencil, like Maybelline New York Master Smoky by Eye Studio in Black Smoke or Rimmel London Scandaleys Eye Shadow Stick in Guilty Gray." Here's how: 1) Run it along your upper lash line a few times (two or three swipes usually does it) 2) Smudge the line up over your lid with a finger. Stop about halfway between the lash line and crease and don't go past the outer corner. 3) Finish with one more swipe along the lower lashes and a little more smudging

5) My brows tend to be a bit sparse by nature, so I'm definitely going to try this tip by cover girl (and one of my biggest fashion crushes!) Victoria Beckham. She uses Latisse, not only for her lashes, but also for her brows. "Maybe it's not for eyebrows," she concedes, "but I put it on my eyebrows." Hey, I say it's worth a try!

3 Must Know Tricks For Applying Fragrances!

1. Good places to apply perfume include pulse points such as your wrists, inner elbows, neck, and behind your ears. These areas tend to give off warmth which can help release the scent. Of course, you could also just follow the advice of Coco Chanel who once said "A woman should wear perfume wherever she wants to be kissed."

2. Make sure your skin is moisturized before you apply your fragrance. The scent will last much longer and be absorbed better than if your skin is too dry.

3. Don't try to rub it in! This will only break down the scent. It's much better to let it dry naturally.

Do you have any other perfume tricks you'd like to share? I'd love to hear them!

Five Foods For Fabulous Hair!

Want gorgeous hair? Having a nutritious diet is important. Try eating more of these five foods to make sure that you are getting the nutrients you need for great hair!

1. Walnuts - These nuts are rich in biotin, a B vitamin that is essential for a healthy scalp and hair growth. Biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss. Walnuts are also a source of copper, an essential mineral that can help your hair maintain it's natural color as you age.

2. Blueberries- These delicious berries are high in vitamin C, which is critical for good circulation to your scalp, keeping hair follicles healthy, and preventing breakage.

Eat Groovy: Why Are Blueberries So Nutritious?

3. Eggs- Because hair is mostly protein, it makes sense that getting enough protein is important for great hair, and eggs are one of the best protein sources you can find. Eggs also contain iron. Getting enough iron is critical in helping to prevent hair loss.

4. Carrots- Carrots are a great source of beta carotene which your body converts to vitamin A. Getting enough Vitamin A is important for scalp health and can help to alleviate symptoms of dandruff.

Eat Groovy: 5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Carrots!

5. Oysters- Oysters are rich in zinc, a deficiency of which leads to hair loss. If oysters aren't your thing, try eating other zinc foods such as beef, wheat germ, and pumpkin seeds.
